Happy New Year to all of our members!

Greetings once again, as we prepare to start writing the year 2024, some of us have just gotten used to writing 2023. It has been another good year and also has been met with some sadness. This past year we lost a long-time active member, former board member, and local gunsmith extraordinaire John Vincent. More recently, we lost part of our dedicated grounds crew Rich Hoover, leaving his wife Cathy with a void in her life. They have been very dedicated in keeping our grass mowed and the weeds under control. They came to our monthly club meetings even when Rich wasn’t feeling well.  John and Rich will be dearly missed.  Perhaps Rich couldn’t take the excitement of the new sidewalk that he kept asking about?  I would like to give many thanks to Cathy for all the help she gave Rich in keeping up with their volunteer work at the club. While I’m thinking of people, I want to say thank you to Mike Ripley and his recruited helpers for forming, pouring and finishing our new sidewalk for easier entrance for those that struggle with challenged mobility.

Our club is seriously looking to make some much needed renovations to the indoor areas of the clubhouse this year, and would welcome any input in the planning stages of this project. We have started receiving monetary donations, so we thankfully aren’t planning to borrow money. If anyone has attempted a building project recently, you know that material prices have increased significantly. We welcome members who are able to make any size donation to the club if you would like to help out. Cash or checks (made payable to MCSA) can be given to our treasurer Chris Smith.  If you desire a donation receipt for tax purposes, that can be provided, and we are registered as a non-profit.  Especially if it’s a LARGE donation!

We still could use another bid or two if you know someone who could do remodeling work. Please also feel free to do any small repairs that you discover are needed, and we can even pay for materials required.

In light of some feedback this year of people not respecting others, and the safety of others on our ranges, I will once again ask that each member continue to supervise the use of our ranges.  Please make sure the ranges are only being used by members (and the guests of members). Please always feel free to ask anyone who is on MCSA property to see their membership card.  If they refuse take a picture with your phone, ask them to leave, then send the picture to me or one of the other directors.  Please don’t get into an altercation with people on the property, it isn’t worth someone getting hurt. Remember that anything you bring needs to leave with you or be put in the dumpster by the clubhouse. Be sure everyone is using targets that are made specifically for shooting at and that all bullets strike the raised dirt backstop (not just the grass).  Range rules are posted at each range for the safety of the shooter, and others that may be near the range. NEVER FIRE A GUN WHEN SOMEONE IS IN FRONT OF THE FIRING LINE PLEASE !

As always, I would like to thank all of our members who have joined us and participated in our monthly meetings. I also want to encourage members who haven’t come to a meeting recently to try visiting us on the second Monday of each month at 7:30pm. It is a good way to meet other members and share any concerns or to volunteer for things our club needs!

If you were not at our November meeting you missed Mike Ripley telling the membership he was going to run another junior rifle session over the winter to work on improving their shooting skills and making sure they understand and practice gun safety.

Sincerely, Michael Cumberland : Chairman of The Board
